After spending a lifetime this winter hibernating, the time is finally here to step outside. I am beyond thrilled to leave the scarves, jackets and boots at home and my sneakers are excited to leave their current home amongst the dust bunnies in my closet. Sneakers have been showcased recently in editorial spreads and on the runways. Wanna get in on this new spring trend? Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • No holes, threadbare laces or mudstains on your fashion sneakers.

  • Remember that seeing a sweat sock around your ankle screams, "My trainer made me sprint 5 miles uphill and I haven't showered since!" Keep those socks at home, or undercover with these.

  • No bermuda shorts or khakis (really, just toss those immediately anyways.) You'll only look like a tourist.

  • Keep these to casual Fridays in the office with a business casual outfit-- tattered jeans, your freshman kegstand award tee and sneakers will only have people mistaking you for an inept intern.

Confused on how to rock these babies? Start here:

  • Treat slip-ons as flats. They're a great transition style for those timid about stepping out of their box.

  • A fail-proof outfit? Cuffed jeans, a t-shirt and blazer or jacket are perfect for running around town in your new comfy kicks.

  • The sportier the style, the more feminine the rest of your outfit should be. Lace-ups? Try a skirt. Slip-ons? Boyfriend jeans and an adorable polka-dot blouse. High-tops? Show them off with a cute miniskirt, tee and jean jacket.

  • Try swapping out the laces for leather ones. Try leaving them untied and loose. Experiment.

  • Don't forget your accessories, be it a scarf, crossbody bag, statement neckace or some stacked rings.

I've got pairs and pairs to choose from now that the sun is out and they are my go-to for running errands, exploring Minneapolis, perusing a museum or dancing at a concert. Spring is definitely here, ladies, and I couldn't be happier that my perennial favorite shoe choice has now become tres chic.
